Log Sheet for Texas Parent Taught Driver Education
One of the requirements for completing a Parent taught drivers ed course in Texas is that an authorized parent or instructor must maintain the driver education log sheet.
This piece of paper contains a list of behind-the-wheel driving objectives that the parent/instructor covers with their teen student. As the student completes the driving objectives, the parent/instructor will record and sign off on the completed objectives.
30 hours of behind-the-wheel practice must be completed in the presence of an authorized parent/instructor before the student is eligible for a provisional license . Only one hour of behind-the-wheel instruction per day will count towards the 30 hours regardless of the number of hours the student actually drives in a day. Additionally, 10 of these 30 hours should be completed at night.
The sheet comes in the Course 101 packet sent by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation to each student enrolled in a parent taught course. But if it has been misplaced, you can download the parent taught driver education log sheet here from the TDLR website.
It is very important to properly maintain this log sheet because it is one of the critical pieces of documentation that you will have to present to the DPS office when your teen applies for their Texas driver’s license. The best way to insure that the logged dates and times are accurate is by recording them as you go.
